Itanagar: First, oranges from the Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh have entered the store of a major supermarket chain in the UAE, a statement said.
State government officials, including Agricultural Production Commissioner and Secretary Bidol Tayeng and Arunachal Pradesh Agricultural Marketing Board (APAMB) CEO Okit Palling, witnessed the launch of organic oranges from Dambuk in Lower Dibang Valley district at Lulu Group’s hypermarket.
Lulu Hypermarket Regional Director KP Thamban and Lulu Group International Santosh Sourcing Manager attended Thursday’s event in Dubai, the official statement said.
Appreciating APAMB’s efforts, Lulu Group Regional Director KP Thamban said that various other organic products from the state are likely to enter UAE stores in the near future.
At the event, Tayeng expressed his appreciation for the collaboration between APAMB and Lulu to successfully organize the programme.
Palling also added that Arunachal Pradesh’s agricultural and horticultural products such as pumpkin, pineapple, ginger, turmeric and cardamom are of “high quality”, but due to logistical constraints, these products are currently unable to be exported.
He expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Pema Kandu and Agriculture Minister Tagataki for facilitating the export of oranges.
