“Our Blues” and Its Realistic Portrayal of Depression

[ad_1]

After a string of apocalyptic drama squid game and we are all dead, the Korean film industry is obsessed with the slice-of-life and romantic comedy genres. Bittersweet series, our bluesReleased last April, from the hands of renowned director Kim Kyu-tae, whose legendary works such as That winter, the wind blows, it’s okay, that’s love and Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo‘.

Interestingly, this is the same thing Kyu-tae has done before. At first, the hit show seemed to tell the story of a community living on the island of Jeju (Jeju Island), but as the story progressed, we saw widespread human problems and turmoil. The play presents more than a dozen characters and several stories organically, making the audience hooked.

In the complicated friendship of Eun Hee (Lee Jung Eun) and Han Soo (Cha Seung Won), and the brotherhood of In Kwon (Park Ji Hwan) and Ho Sik (Choi Young Joon), the film depicts child abuse, debt, teenage pregnancy, Suicide and depression, among other issues. The show also addresses the very important topic of depression.

Shin Min Ah plays Min Sun Ah, a woman in her 30s who suffers from depression. Her condition is deliberately depicted in blue, symbolizing Shanya’s state of mind. According to color psychology, gray and blue are two prominent colors associated with depression.

Kyu-tae does a great job emphasizing the existential exhaustion Sun-ah faces. She found it very difficult to get out of bed in the morning. She was lying on the bed, drenched in sweat. She is always detached from the present moment. The constant ripples/blurs in the air around her, even when she was performing important tasks, indicated her confused and exhausted state of mind. Sun-ah has trouble concentrating on her daily chores.

Despite her struggles, she faked a smile to her three-year-old son. “Our Blues” reflects people’s ignorance of depression from the way her husband treats her. Statements like “tell me about your will to live” and “clean yourself up” are some of the most common words spoken by people battling depression. Shan Ya has been working hard to make herself better.

The director made a very important scene to show how she struggles with timing. She went to the bathroom during the day, but when she got out of the shower, she found that the sun had gone down and she couldn’t feel anything. As she leaned on the balcony to make sure it was night, the world around her began to darken, and the bright buildings outside lost their luster one by one, and it was completely dark.

Despite being in a brightly lit room, a depressed person may feel that he or she is in a dark cave with no hope. These delusions also led to her accidents, as well as a suicide attempt.

The reason for this depression was the underlying trauma she suffered from watching her father commit suicide by driving his car into the sea, and her mother being abused as a child. Research shows that children are often unsure how to deal with traumatic events and often do not have the resources needed to do so effectively. As a result, children tend to develop their own coping mechanisms, which can range from isolation to anger. These unresolved issues can lead to depression as a child enters adulthood.

our blues Unlike other K-Dramas that deal with depression because it focuses on Seon Ah’s emotional psychology. It’s about how she battles not only society, but her inner demons to be happy.
