Proven winner announced at world-class field at HSBC Abu Dhabi Championship

From January 19-22, 2023, Séamus Power will join former champion Tyrrell Hatton, three-time DP World Tour champion Ryan Fox, 2018 Open champion Francesco Molinari and rising star Sepp Straka in Asia. Slinks made his debut at the HSBC Championship in Abu Dhabi.

The two-time PGA Tour winner will head to Yas Links after representing England and Ireland at the Hero Cup with Hatton, while Straka will make his debut alongside 2018 Open champion Molinari. Kiwi Fox enjoyed the best year of his career as he won twice and finished the season as second on the DP World Tour as he returns to Yas Links Abu Dhabi on Yas Island The course – the sports and entertainment home of the Middle East – marks the second year in a row that the venue hosts the prestigious event, which has been a fixture of golf around the world since it was first held in 2006.

Abu Dhabi Sports Council has confirmed free general admission for all matchdays, giving fans in the UAE the chance to witness world-class action for free, including Grand Slam champions Molinari and Sean Lowry, as well as defending champion Thomas Pieters .

The Irishman Ball, who is No. 1 in the 2022 PGA Tour FedEx Cup rankings, will make his Rolex Series debut at the start of the year, which he hopes will lead to a Ryder Cup debut for Team Europe.

“The Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship is one of the highlights on the DP World Tour schedule and I’m excited to make my debut next month,” Ball said.

“I’ve heard good things about the event and I’m excited to have the opportunity to be a part of it. I’ve played really well on the PGA Tour this year so hopefully next month I’ll be able to take my ball to Abu Dhabi and Get closer to that team with Marco Simeone in September.”

Austrian Straka won his first PGA Tour title earlier this year at the Honda Classic and made his Rolex Series debut at the Genesis Scottish Open in July.

“I loved playing in the Rolex Series for the first time last year and I’m eager for more at the HSBC Championship in Abu Dhabi.

“Having the opportunity to spend two weeks in Abu Dhabi at the beginning of the year and have the opportunity to test my game in different places was really exciting.”

The successful relocation to Yas Island in 2022 heralds a new chapter for the event, underscoring Abu Dhabi’s status as an international sports hub, with the season-ending F1 Championship and Ultimate Fighting Championship taking place at the world-class venue.

Last month, the DP World Tour confirmed a total prize pool of $9 million for all Rolex Series events – an increase of $1 million over the 2022 prize money. The 2023 Championship will be the second of four events making up the Middle East Swing, as Abu Dhabi prepares to host two weeks of world-class golf across multiple venues.

Yas Island is Abu Dhabi’s premier leisure, retail and entertainment hub, leading the way in supporting the emirate’s 2030 economic vision. The new venue’s unique blend of stunning views, first-class hospitality and a variety of award-winning leisure and entertainment attractions enhances the experience for fans, whether they are attending in person or watching from around the world.

Designed by Kyle Phillips and opened in 2010, Yas Links Abu Dhabi was ranked 34th on Golf Digest’s 2022 list of the top 100 courses in the world. It also hosted the golf program for the 2019 Special Olympics World Games.
