Qatar Lifts All Restrictions On Sea Travel After Two-Week Pause
Boats are back on the water in Qatar. The Qatar maritime navigation resume order took effect on Sunday, ending a suspension that had been in place since July 12 due to heightened tensions in the Gulf and around the Strait of Hormuz.
The Ministry of Transport confirmed that all types of vessels, from leisure boats and jet skis to fishing boats, can now operate normally across Qatari waters. The ministry is still asking operators to follow safety rules, check registration papers, and carry proper safety equipment before heading out to sea.
The move follows a rocky few weeks for the wider region. Tensions between the US and Iran had earlier raised worries about tanker traffic and safety in the Strait of Hormuz, a narrow but vital shipping route for global oil.
A pause in hostilities between Washington and Tehran, along with quiet diplomatic efforts led by Oman, appears to be giving Gulf countries enough confidence to return to normal operations.
For residents and tourists in Qatar, the update means water sports, fishing trips and leisure sailing can resume as usual. It’s also seen as a small but hopeful sign that the wider region may be stepping back from recent weeks’ tension.
