Jordanian sports club Wihdat has announced that it will not be participating in the international handball competition scheduled for July 18-28. The reason behind the decision was the club’s refusal to normalize with Israel.

The tournament will bring together many top Arab and Asian teams.

Last Monday, Wihdat wrote in a post on its Facebook page: “Officially, the Wihdat Club has announced that it will not be participating in the Al Ain Handball Championship,” ending the statement with the hashtag in Arabic: #no_normalization.

The decision was quickly supported by Jordanian and Palestinian activists on social media.

A popular social media account called “I Am Arab Against Normalization” was one of many who welcomed the decision, accusing UAE team Al Ain of promoting the Israeli occupation by working with Israel’s Maccabi Haifa team. normalization.

“Sport is a moral act, and the expulsion of people and colonization of their lands will not be tolerated,” the account reads.
