Rishi Sunak said at the end of the G7 summit that China posed the “biggest challenge” to global security.
“China poses the greatest challenge of our time to global security and prosperity, increasingly authoritarian at home and assertive abroad,” the prime minister added.
“It’s all about reducing risk, not decoupling.”
During the G7 talks, world leaders focused on Ukraine and China.
Mr Sunak: “We will work with the G7 and others to ensure that we can reduce our own risk and the vulnerability of our supply chains that we see from China, take the necessary steps to protect ourselves from hostile investment, and A way that doesn’t hurt each other.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy huddled with some of his biggest supporters at the three-day conference, hoping to add momentum to his country’s war effort against Russia.
On Sunday, Mr Zelensky held two rounds of meetings, the first with the leaders of the G7 and the second with the group and a host of invited guests including India, South Korea and Brazil.
The Ukrainian president also had a one-on-one meeting with U.S. President Joe Biden.
Mr. Biden authorized Western allies to supply Ukraine with advanced F-16 fighter jets.
Speaking at the summit, White House national security adviser Jack Sullivan said: “As training unfolds in the coming months, we will work with our allies to determine when, who and how many aircraft will be delivered.”
The U.S. president continued to support the struggling nation as he announced a new military aid package.
“We have the support of Ukraine and we’re not going anywhere,” Mr Biden said.
Mr Sunak further backed Ukraine, saying: “We will stand with Ukraine.”
He added: “As long as the need arises, we will stand with Ukraine because their safety is our safety.
“We had a real breakthrough at this summit because of President Biden’s support for an international coalition to provide F-16 jets.
“Any peaceful solution must be on Ukraine’s terms.”
Training for pilots to successfully fly the F-16 will begin this summer, Mr. Sunak said.
