Salida’s celebration of National Day saw visitors line up for food and drinks and seek shade during the day’s events. Entertainment at Riverside Park begins at 12:00 noon and the lead band, Santa Rios, wraps up around 9:30 pm, just before the fireworks display.

There are numerous stands throughout the park, including beers from Salida’s Soulcraft Brewing. Riverside Park becomes a hub of activity, with crowds coming and going.
Tickets for beer, wine and other beverage sales are handled by the Rotary Club of Salida.
Proceeds from the drinks will benefit Rotary programs as well as event lead organizer Elaine Allemang and volunteers at the Salida Community Center.

All celebrations of the country’s birthday come to a grand finale: fireworks at sunset on Nenfoot Mountain (also known as “S” Mountain).
As the sun begins to sink, people start lining up on the F Street Bridge, while others mark their spots on sidewalks and pedestrian plazas as the best spots to watch the fireworks.
Although it was hot during the day, there was a cool breeze in the evening and the temperature was still in the mid-70s, making it a beautiful night.
When the band played in Riverside Park, the streets and sidewalks were filled with dogs and children.
But before the fireworks show, there are other light events worth cheering about.
A bike parade with 200 illuminated bikes, scooters, skateboards and other wheeled vehicles expected to gather at the F Street Turnaround.

It makes a leisurely clockwise loop east from Sackett Avenue, then travels six blocks south. It goes around G Street and makes it home on the corner of Sackett.

As the time for the fireworks display approached, crowds began to flock to F Street. People showed impatience by lighting various fireworks and Roman candles.

Unsanctioned, large, loud fireworks are also routinely set off at the rail yard and west parking lot on the left bank of the Arkansas River.
Finally, a spectacular performance on Mount S by members of the Salida Fire Department apparently delighted the thousands who had gathered to witness the National Birthday celebration.
The game ended with multiple volleys and applause from the audience.
After a good day, most of the crowd slowly moved south down F Street, with blankets, chairs, children, wagons and dogs in tow.
