Get ready to embark on a world of intrigue and betrayal in Shakespeare’s tense political thriller Julius Caesar.
The Etherredge Center will present the next event in its cultural series on January 14 at 7:30 pm: William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. The New York City-based Aquila Theater Company will present the play under artistic director Desiree Sanchez.
The Story: Fresh off a victory on the battlefield, the victorious Caesar returns to Rome as virtual dictator. Brutus, Cassius, and a group of like-minded senators decide they must stop Caesar’s ambitious power grab. The great Caesar must be assassinated. After the Act was implemented, violence erupted and the country plunged into civil war. The conspirators must contend with armies still loyal to the murdered leader, led by Mark Antony and Caesar’s nephew Octavian. The Aquila Theater will breathe new life and passion into this timeless story, with The New Yorker describing their production as “a classic associated with masterful acting and artful staging.”
