Sheikh Hamdan sends best wishes to UAE astronaut as team prepares for historic mission

UAE – With less than 24 hours to go until the UAE launches the Arab world’s first long-duration space mission, the launch of this landmark mission is exciting.

The mission officially kicked off today, with Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neiyadi – the second in the UAE’s history – getting ready to take off. The “launch readiness review” for NASA’s SpaceX Crew-6 mission to the International Space Station has been completed and is expected to launch at 1.45am ET (10.45am UAE time) on Monday, February 27th from the Launch from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida.

Favorable weather appears to be on the horizon, with officials saying there is a 95 percent chance of favorable conditions for the planned launch window. The launch weather official mentioned that cumulus clouds could drift “at the wrong time” — but that’s “very unlikely,” the official clarified.

As Crew-6 prepares to pave history for the nation, Dubai Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum tweeted tribute to the Emirati astronaut and his team Best wishes for his journey.

Sheikh Hamdan tweeted: “Inspired by the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed, Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyyadi will embark on a six-month mission to the International Space Station.”

“We are proud of Sultan, MBRSC and all those who aspire to achieve the best for the UAE.”

The crew will dock at around 2.38am (11.38am) UAE time on Tuesday, February 28. They will stay in the microgravity laboratory for up to six months.
