With a firm commitment to integrating economic, social, and environmental sustainability into its development agenda, Dubai aspires to lead by example in fostering a harmonious balance between rapid economic growth and environmental preservation. Sheikh Mohammed envisions Dubai as a beacon of sustainability and resilience, showcasing to the world how embracing eco-friendly practices can drive prosperity, elevate living standards, and contribute significantly to the global fight against climate change.

The newly established authority is tasked with fortifying Dubai’s resilience against future challenges by championing the highest standards of sustainable development and biodiversity conservation. The authority’s ambitious agenda includes expanding Dubai’s green cover by 100 percent and augmenting the area of protected areas and natural reserves by 60 percent by 2040. Moreover, it will prioritize water resource conservation and implement sustainable waste management policies to safeguard the environment for future generations.

Addressing climate change and ensuring food security are paramount objectives for the authority. Resilient infrastructure and services will be developed to mitigate the impacts of accidents, disasters, and natural calamities, safeguarding the community against adverse consequences.

In alignment with Dubai’s Economic Agenda D33, the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority aims to elevate the contribution of the circular and green economy to the emirate’s GDP. Additionally, it will champion green finance initiatives, collaborating with key financial institutions to prioritize and support green projects, thereby advancing Dubai’s sustainable development goals.

Aligned with Dubai’s strategic objectives, the Sheikh Mohammed authority will spearhead initiatives aimed at achieving a complete transition to clean energy by 2050. This monumental shift towards renewable energy sources will not only reduce carbon emissions but also enhance energy security and promote economic diversification. Additionally, the authority aims to significantly improve air quality, with a target of achieving a 90 percent enhancement according to WHO guidelines by 2033. This commitment to combating air pollution underscores Dubai’s dedication to safeguarding public health and well-being.

In pursuit of Sheikh Mohammed mission, the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority will collaborate closely with key stakeholders, including government agencies, private sector entities, civil society organizations, and academic institutions.
