Arab Parliamentary Union leaders call for joint Arab action at all levels to ensure Syria returns to Arab camp

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad hosted on Sunday a delegation from the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, which is taking part in the 34th meeting of the Arab Parliamentary Union that concluded in Baghdad on Saturday.

The delegation included Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), as well as the Speakers of Iraq, Jordan, Palestine, Libya and Egypt, as well as the heads of delegations from the Sultanate of Oman and Lebanon, and Secretary General of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The parliamentary delegation reaffirmed the Arab parliament’s support and position for the Syrian people, as well as its continued solidarity following the recent earthquake. They emphasized the need to promote joint Arab action at all levels to ensure Syria’s return to the Arab states and restore its role at the Arab, regional and international levels.

At the same time, the Syrian President met separately with the delegation led by Saqr Ghobash who was visiting the Syrian capital.

During the meeting, Ghobash conveyed the message from His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President, and Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid Al Mak, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai Greetings from Her Royal Highness Toum.

Assad conveyed his greetings and thanks to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed and Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashid to Ghobash, praising their support and the Chairman of the General Women’s Union (GWU), The support of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Maternity and Childhood and the Supreme Chairman of the Family Development Foundation, thanked the relief aid provided to the Syrian people affected by the recent devastating earthquake.

Ghobash said that under the leadership of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, the UAE has always been keen to ensure that its relations with countries are based on a solid foundation of mutual cooperation, friendship and respect.
