[ad_1]

UAE-based Tawazun Council says it has signed an agreement with leading UAE defense and security company Saab to establish a sovereign additive manufacturing capability (3D printing) for the UAE Air Force and Air Defense Force (AFAD), with the goal of efficiently designing and manufacturing spare parts.

The deal aims to meet several policy guidelines outlined as part of Tawazun’s economic plan objectives, including providing strategic benefits to the UAE, encouraging knowledge transfer, building new capabilities, creating jobs for UAE nationals, and integrating aerospace and additive manufacturing as a priority sector.

The agreement was signed at the Tawazun Chalet by Abdullah Saif Al Awani, Chief Economic Planning Officer, Tawazun Council, and Anna-Karin Rosén, Managing Director, Emirates Saab, in the presence of senior officials.

This follows the announcement during IDEX 2023 of ‘Sindan’, the UAE’s first Center of Excellence for 3D Printing.

By giving the UAE AFAD sovereign capabilities for the additive manufacturing of 3D printed parts, the partnership will make it more self-reliant, reduce reliance on overseas suppliers, reduce lead times and costs for component delivery, and increase uptime and availability important military assets.

Abdullah Al Awani said the partnership reflects the Tawazun Council’s ongoing efforts to develop and manage strategic partnerships in the defense industry, which has significant economic impact on the UAE.

“This collaboration benefits all parties by creating value through locally manufactured products, promoting self-sufficiency and manpower development, and supporting local manufacturing. In addition, it facilitates technology transfer and enhances the UAE’s sovereign capabilities in the field of air force and air defense, “He said.

Anna-Karin Rosén said: “Saab is firmly committed to being a key strategic partner of AFAD in the UAE, and we are honored to work with the Tawazun Council as it seeks to strengthen sovereign manufacturing capabilities to ensure sustainable growth in the defense sector.”

“Our agreement aims to achieve this, while also harnessing the enormous potential of the country’s workforce by providing high-value training and employment opportunities for UAE nationals, equipping them with the skills to lead and further develop the industry in the coming years ,” he added.-TradeArabia News Service
