UAE: 10 teams vie for best performance at Dubai Schools Drama Festival

Dubai: The Dubai Arts and Culture Authority (Dubai Culture) today announced preparations for the third Dubai Schools Theater Festival, to be held at the Mohammed bin Rashid Library Theater from May 8-12, featuring 10 schools and educational institutions in Dubai. Compete for a range of awards.

Through this festival, Dubai Culture seeks to support emerging talents and encourage them to produce a variety of theatrical productions. Fatma Al Jallaf, Acting Director of Dubai Department of Culture and Performing Arts, said: “The local theater sector needs emerging talent to ensure the sustainability and continuity of its productions and theater projects that reflect the realities of our communities and our heritage, and highlight our The rich cultural and artistic scene makes the festival an artery capable of injecting fresh blood into the UAE’s theater movement.”

The festival is open to students in grades 4 to 12, and the conditions for participation include: group-based presentations in classical Arabic, 15 to 45 minutes in length, and scripts that take into account customs and traditions of the local community.

Dubai Culture also revealed the members of the jury that will evaluate all plays during the festival, namely: Emirati actor, writer and director Marei Al Halyan (chairman of the jury), artist and director Mohammed Saeed Al Salti (member) and artist Hassan Youssef Alblooshi (member ).

The festival will present several awards to participants, including Best Combined Drama Performance, Best Actor and Actress, Best Director, Best Dramatic Screenplay, and more.

Contestants

Throughout the festival, the festival will witness 10 theater performances, starting with Al Rayah High School – Girls, followed by cycle 2 of Al Qeyam Girls’ School, and Umm Suqeim Girls’ School, while the second day will see Zayed Educational’s performance of Complex – Al Barsha South, Mohammed bin Rashid Secondary Education School – Boys.

The third day included performances at Omar Bin AlKhattab Basic Education School – Second Stage and Al Lisaili Kindergarten and School – Girls’ First, Second and Third Stages and Rashid Bin Saeed School – Boys’ Third Stage, while the fourth day Performances will be provided by Al Alfiya Girls’ Basic Education School – Second Cycle and Mohammed Noor Boys’ Basic Education School.

On the fifth day of the festival, on May 12th, there will be a closing ceremony and the announcement of the winners.
