Ras Al Khaimah authorities seized 214,000 counterfeit garments worth Dh91 million from warehouses.
A company reported the abandoned warehouse to the Ras Al Khaimah Department of Economic Development (RAK-DED), informing them of the presence of counterfeit clothing bearing the logos of 28 international brands. The report also said the fraudulent companies were based out of Ras Al Khaimah and operated by storing goods in abandoned warehouses in the emirate. It then ships the goods to other emirates to sell them on the market at a lower price than the original.
Faisal Alyoun, director of the Commercial Control and Protection Department, said they coordinated with the Ras Al Khaimah Police’s Criminal Investigation Department to raid the location and confiscate all counterfeit goods and the vehicles used to transport them.
The police arrested the defendants and handed them over to the public prosecution.
Olayu warned the public about the risks of buying counterfeit products. He said counterfeiters could alter the product’s characteristics and colour, and the quality could degrade over time, posing a risk to the health and safety of individuals.
