The UAE affirmed that 2023 should be the year of peace in Yemen and that all international efforts should be mobilized to end the conflict, meet the legitimate aspirations of the Yemeni people and strengthen peace and stability in the country, the region, and commended the UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Saudi Arabia Hans Grunberg’s efforts and Aman’s mediation.

This came as Minister of State Noura Al Kaabi participated in a donor conference organized by the Swedish and Swiss Confederations in partnership with the United Nations (UN) in Geneva to mobilize support for Yemen’s 2023 Humanitarian Response Plan. Also in attendance were UN Secretary-General António Guterres; Ignazio Cassis, Swiss Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs; Johan Fussell, Sweden’s Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade; and numerous donor countries and international humanitarian organizations.

Al Kaabi affirmed the UAE’s commitment to helping the Yemeni people, noting that since 2015, the UAE has given Yemen a total of $6.6 billion in aid and $300 million in deposits to boost the local currency. Continuing this approach, in addition to multilateral peace and development efforts in Yemen, the UAE has supported reconstruction and rehabilitation projects this year, providing some $325 million to improve healthcare, renewable energy and the agricultural sector, including a building for irrigation purposes dam.

Al Kaabi added: “The UAE welcomes the ongoing negotiations to urge the Houthi militias to show the necessary flexibility to ensure the success of the peace process. We thank the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its continued humanitarian assistance and efforts to advance the political process in Yemen “

She concluded by emphasizing that the UAE believes it is time to shift our focus from managing the conflict to finding solutions, starting with restoring the truce and easing the humanitarian situation experienced by the people of Yemen and the catastrophic consequences of the conflict. war. Al Kaabi noted the importance of transitioning from emergency relief to recovery for sustainable development in Yemen.
