Abu Dhabi will host the long-awaited Middle East premiere of “Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1” at a red carpet event at the Emirates Palace on June 26, featuring star Tom Cruise and the director Inside the film’s cast and crew will be in attendance Christopher McQuarrie.
With the support of the Abu Dhabi Film Commission (ADFC), part of the Creative Media Authority, the breathtaking vistas of the Liwa Desert and the iconic Abu Dhabi Midfield Terminal were used as Paramount Films. Filming locations for commercial films.
The complexity of the shoot, which included the creation of an Arabian village in the desert and multiple sets at the terminal, required the collaboration of multiple businesses and entities in Abu Dhabi, including twofour54 Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Airports and the official airline Film in partnership with Etihad Airways.
This is the second time the Mission: Impossible series has been filmed in Abu Dhabi, after Mission: Impossible – Fallout filmed the jaw-dropping Halo jump sequence in Abu Dhabi in 2018, once again getting ADFC, twofour54 and the UAE military. This is also the seventh film in the “Mission: Impossible” movie series.
In addition to Cruise and McQuarrie, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff and Simon Pegg are among the other stars who will attend the Middle East premiere later this month.
Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Acting Director General of the Creative Media Authority, said it was an honor for Abu Dhabi to host the premiere and reflects the emirate’s status as one of the top film and television locations in the Middle East and North Africa.
“We are proud to once again be working with such a genre-defining franchise, which showcases how Abu Dhabi has everything a filmmaker needs to succeed with such a large, complex production.”
It was the success of shooting Mission: Impossible: Fallout in Abu Dhabi that Paramount Pictures turned to ADFC again to help them complete another Mission: Impossible project – this time purchasing an airport terminal and desert Landscapes will really elevate the production.
The committee supported the team by obtaining approvals and permits to film at Abu Dhabi Midfield Terminal and Liwa, and was in close contact with multiple stakeholders and Abu Dhabi government entities.
After over a year of planning, filming took place in 2021 within 15 days of the worst of the pandemic in Abu Dhabi, but there were no disruptions due to Covid-19 due to ADFC protocols in place in Abu Dhabi.
As well as building the sets in the Liwa and Midfield terminals, the production team filmed on the 742,000-square-meter terminal’s roof, which is the world’s longest single-standing arch at 180 meters high.
The shoot also benefited from ADFC’s 30% cashback and was supported by a host of other Abu Dhabi companies, specialist suppliers, 125 local freelancers and 250 local extras.
Meanwhile, twofour54 provided full production services to the Mission: Impossible team, obtained filming permits through its Tawasol team, and managed applications required by other government services to ensure a smooth and seamless production.
“Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1” is one of 140 major productions filmed in Abu Dhabi over the past 10 years, from companies including Disney, Netflix, Legendary and Universal. Movies include Dune and Dune 2, Mission: Impossible: Fallout, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, 6 Underground and Fast & Furious 7, as well as Bollywood hits such as Vikram Vedha, Tiger Zinda Hai and Bharat.
