UAE delegation promotes business ties at Kazan Forum 2023

The UAE delegation meets in Kazan, capital of Tatarstan, Russian Federation.

Dr. Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, led a delegation of UAE government officials to Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, Russian Federation.

During his visit, Al Zeyoudi held a series of meetings with ministers and business representatives, and delivered a speech at the “Russia-Islamic World: Kazan Forum 2023,” an event aimed at strengthening cooperation between Russia and member states of the Islamic cooperative organization.

During the meeting, Al-Zeyoudi discussed the prospects for cooperation in areas of mutual interest, particularly trade, investment and climate mitigation.

At the forum, Al Zeyoudi gave the opening remarks at an online roundtable aimed at stimulating investment between Arab countries and Russia. He highlighted how the UAE is now one of the leading global destinations for foreign direct investment and that initiatives such as NextGenFDI are helping to build a diversified knowledge economy. He also addressed a conference on North-South trade corridors and their role in promoting intra-regional trade.

Dr Thani Al Zeyoudi also used the trip to hold bilateral meetings with several government ministers and senior officials, focusing on the current economic situation, areas of mutual interest and investment opportunities – particularly in areas such as fintech and renewable energy key areas.

Al Zeyoudi highlighted the UAE’s desire to strengthen ties with Central Asia’s emerging economies, which offer a range of exciting investment opportunities. “We are always looking to open up new markets, and the Kazan Forum provides an important platform to meet representatives of Central Asian countries and find areas of mutual interest – especially in key areas such as energy transition and food security. This is a market with great potential The region, which has long-standing ties to the UAE, is also a natural market for our investors and exporters.”

During his visit, Al Zeyoudi also met His Excellency Syed Naveed Qamar, Minister of Commerce of Pakistan, to discuss ways to enhance trade and investment between the two countries, especially in areas of mutual interest such as logistics and transportation.

Al Zeyoudi was joined by a delegation of senior officials including Hamad Rashed Alhebsi, Deputy Head of Mission at the UAE Embassy in Moscow; Dr. Farah Ali Al Zarooni, Assistant Undersecretary, Standards and Regulations Department, Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology; Annual Investment Meeting (AIM ) Dawood Al Shezawi, Chief Executive Officer; Rashed Ahmed Al Teneiji, Director General, Trade Promotion Department, Ministry of Economy; His Excellency Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed Al Yamahi, Board Member, Fujairah Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Tareq Mohamed Ebraheim al Hanaee, Board Member, Fujairah Chamber of Commerce and Industry; KEZAD Khalid Al Marzooqi, Group Vice President, International Business Development; Raj Jit Singh Wallia, Deputy Chief Financial Officer, DP World Headquarters; Sergey Chemarda, Member of the Board of Directors, Corporate Finance and Business Development, DP World Russia FZCO; Valeriya Grabovskaya, Business Specialist, KEZAD Group; Abdelaziz Al Shamsi, Assistant Director, Commercial Sector.

A day earlier, Dr. Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi led a delegation of leading UAE trade and financial officials to Bosnia and Herzegovina to identify strategic opportunities for Emirati businesses in the region and build stronger trade and investment links with this increasingly important economic region.

Al Zeyoudi held a series of bilateral meetings with Bosnia and Herzegovina’s ministers and senior government officials to identify potential areas of cooperation between the two countries.

These included a meeting with Borjana Kristo, Chair of the Council of Ministers, to discuss the latest developments in global efforts to combat climate change, and to explore potential bilateral trade opportunities with Stasa Kosarac, Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations.

Al Zeyoudi also witnessed a speech by Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Foreign Minister Elmedin Konakovic, in which he presented leading projects in the country’s high-growth industries such as agriculture, healthcare, metals, oil and construction.

Following the initial meeting, discussions took place with representatives of the Bosnia and Herzegovina Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA) to promote direct UAE investment in the country, as well as with Vjekoslav Vukoslav and Ahmet Egrlic, Vice-Presidents of the Bosnian Chamber of Foreign Trade and Herzegovina, HE Al Zeyoudi highlighted the UAE’s role as a leading logistics hub that can support the country’s agriculture, manufacturing and auto parts exports.
