In 11 months, world leaders, environmentalists, researchers and policymakers will gather here for COP28 – perhaps the most pivotal event in shaping the future of our planet and ensuring action on climate change.

The success of Expo 2020 demonstrates that the country is at the forefront of environmental and technological change – and will provide leadership and advice to ensure that COP28 is a successful one.
It is also a country that is setting trends in the Arab world. Throughout 2023, the nuclear power plant at Al Barakah – the only nuclear power plant of its kind in the Middle East – will remain fully operational, providing the UAE with clean and renewable energy.
Across our seven emirates, the Etihad Rail network continues to connect our cities and communities with a modern train system that is reshaping our economy through civil engineering, both in scale and in cause , are true pioneers.

The coming year will also be a time when the country continues to lead the global recovery from the economic storm that has intensified during the coronavirus pandemic. While events in Ukraine may cause uncertainty, here, the UAE is well positioned to develop and promote peace, security and progress.

Over the past three years, our government, public health and medical personnel and facilities have demonstrated our ability to meet and overcome the unprecedented and profound challenges posed by Covid-19.
We can never really let our guard down, and we must remain vigilant against future crises of this kind – but recent chapters have highlighted our unprecedented ability to work together.
Over the next year, we will use this first-ever attitude to develop and build a future where all benefit and thrive from a shared sense of purpose.
