Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company (Tadweer) has launched the Middle East’s first all-electric heavy-duty truck for collecting household waste.

Tadweer said today that the move supports the UAE’s Environmental Vision 2030 and the UAE’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

The launch is in partnership with Renault Trucks Middle East and Al Masaood. The truck was built by Renault Trucks and represented by Al Masaood after Tadweer and Al Masaood signed an agreement during the recent EcoWaste exhibition and conference.

With a range of up to 200 kilometers between charges, the trucks “have already proven their worth” from a zero-emissions and performance standpoint. Tadweer said it was eager to start running electric trucks on Abu Dhabi’s roads to assess and monitor the vehicles’ performance in summer temperatures.

Most recently, the federal government committed to setting up more than 800 electric vehicle charging stations across the country.

Ali Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and CEO of Tadweer, said: “Tadweer has established itself as a pioneer in waste management and driving a sustainable future.
