Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, called his Turkish counterpart yesterday.

Recent developments, including the Taliban’s recent ban on women’s education and appointments to positions in non-governmental and humanitarian organizations, as well as the Israeli minister’s attack on the Al-Aqsa Mosque, were discussed with Israeli Foreign Minister Mevlut Causoglu These developments were discussed during the call. Sheikh Abdullah stressed that this ban, along with previous ones, violated basic human rights. He said that Islam attaches great importance to women, granting them a privileged position and guaranteeing their rights. He affirmed the need to guarantee women’s rights and the importance of women’s and girls’ full and equal participation in all aspects of life.

For his part, Cavusoglu reiterated Turkey’s expectation that the decision be overturned and stressed the importance of coordinated efforts in this regard, especially through the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

During the call, the ministers also reiterated their condemnation of the Israeli minister’s attack on the al-Aqsa mosque yesterday.

They stressed the importance of upholding the status and sanctity of Jerusalem’s holy sites and strengthening coordination to combat such unacceptable practices. They also discussed the need for full protection of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and an end to the serious and provocative violations taking place there, and called on the Israeli authorities to take responsibility for reducing escalation and instability in the region.

Ministers concluded by discussing issues related to the bilateral agenda.
