UAE president gets call from Bill Gates


President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan received a call today from Bill Gates, Co-Chairman of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. During the call, Gates congratulated His Highness on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, wishing the UAE and its people continued well-being and prosperity.

His Royal Highness and Bill Gates discussed the potential for greater collaboration and initiatives to combat global epidemics such as polio. They acknowledge the significant progress that has been made in this area in recent years, and the need to address “neglected tropical diseases”. Both parties also reviewed the role of the Reaching the Last Mile Forum in mobilizing and accelerating global efforts to support underdeveloped societies in eliminating life-threatening diseases that impede their socioeconomic development and progress. Other humanitarian, development and health partnership initiatives supported by both parties aim to improve humanitarian response to challenges facing many societies and countries around the world.

The call also discussed the importance of COP28, which will be hosted by the UAE at the end of the year. The event will mark the first comprehensive global assessment of progress towards implementing the goals of the historic Paris climate agreement, advancing coordinated climate action and accelerating global efforts to address the consequences of climate change.

In this context, His Highness and Bill Gates discussed the value of modern technology and innovation in advancing the search for effective and durable solutions to environmental problems, noting that innovation is a key component in addressing such challenges and protecting the environment and its nature . resources to achieve sustainable development.

The two sides also discussed how COP28 and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation can work together to address the impact of climate change on human health.

Sheikh Mohamed thanked Bill Gates for his Eid greetings, stressing the UAE’s determination to contribute to advancing international cooperation in the fight against diseases that threaten people’s lives and hinder development, and support various qualitative initiatives and global efforts in this regard.

During the call, Bill Gates praised the UAE’s important humanitarian role in delivering relief to numerous societies around the world under different conditions and in a way that greatly benefited the intended beneficiaries. He also praised the UAE’s philanthropic initiatives in response to global diseases and pandemics.
