UAE Public Holiday August 28: Long Weekend Confirmed
Good news for anyone counting down to their next break. The UAE public holiday August 28 has now been officially confirmed by the Government Media Office, marking the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), also known as Mawlid Al Nabawi.
Friday, August 28, will be a paid day off for both federal government and private sector employees. Since it falls on a Friday, most staff who follow a Saturday-Sunday weekend will enjoy three days off in a row, from August 28 through August 30, before returning to work on Monday, August 31.
The actual religious date is expected to fall on Tuesday, August 25, pending confirmation from the UAE’s moon-sighting committee, but the public holiday itself has been moved to the end of the week. This follows a UAE Cabinet rule introduced last year that allows certain holidays, apart from Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha, to shift to the start or end of the working week.
The occasion is traditionally observed quietly, with religious gatherings and reflection rather than large celebrations. This break also lands just before the new school year begins on August 31, giving families one last chance to relax before routines pick up again.
