According to a UAE envoy, over one million people in Gaza have been displaced, with more than 500,000 seeking shelter in United Nations facilities.
Unprecedented Bombardment: Israel-Palestine
The envoy emphasized that Gaza has been under “relentless and indiscriminate bombardment” for nearly two weeks, following what was described as a “heinous attack on Israel” on October 7.

The ambassador decried the inhumane siege that has been imposed on Gaza, affecting civilians. She also highlighted a recent attack on Al Ahli Baptist Hospital, which resulted in the tragic death of more than 500 people.
Urgent Humanitarian Needs: Israel-Palestine
The UAE President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, discussed with UN Secretary-General António Guterres the importance of protecting civilians, emphasizing:
- Immediate cessation of hostilities
- Unconditional release of all hostages
- Safe and unhindered access for all humanitarian aid workers
Reconnecting Basic Services
The ambassador stressed the need to reconnect electricity, water, and telecommunications to meet the basic needs of the population.
Humanitarian Aid Efforts
She mentioned that humanitarian aid has been accumulating at Egypt’s border with Gaza and that the UAE has opened an air bridge to transport life-saving supplies. However, the lack of guarantees that aid trucks and civilians won’t be targeted hinders their delivery to those in need.
UAE’s Financial Support
The UAE’s government pledged an additional $70 million in aid for Gaza, emphasizing the growing humanitarian crisis.
A Call for De-escalation
The ambassador warned of a worsening humanitarian situation and called for de-escalation and an immediate cessation of hostilities to prevent a further regional conflagration.
