UAE’s new foreign trade strategy to strengthen Iran’s role in region: report

TEHRAN – The new strategy of the United Arab Emirates to sign free trade agreements with India and Turkey will further strengthen the role of the Islamic Republic’s mediation in the region, the Iranian Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mining and Agricultural Research (ICCIMA) said in a report.

As one of Iran’s largest trading partners in the region, the UAE has been a popular market for Iranian businessmen and traders, and the expansion of the country’s economic ties with Iran’s neighbors could also have implications for Iran’s trade with them, according to the ICCIMA portal. positive influence.

According to the aforementioned report, the UAE has recently focused on signing free trade agreements with a range of countries including India, the UK, Turkey, South Korea, Ethiopia, Indonesia and Kenya.

In addition, the country is a member of a large number of trade-related international organizations and treaties, the most important of which are the World Trade Organization, the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council, the GCC-European Free Trade Agreement and the Pan-Arab Free Trade Agreement trade area.

Among the aforementioned countries, India and Turkey are of great significance to Iran, as for Turkey, the trade agreement with the UAE has the potential to be an important economic, political and transit advantage for Iran.

Given the tensions that exist between Saudi Arabia and Turkey on the one hand and Qatar on the other, with the formation of a free trade agreement between the UAE and Turkey, Iran can play an important role in bringing all these countries together. Mediation.

As for India, while the agreement may undermine Chabahar Port’s status as the country’s regional trade hub, it will remain India’s regional trade hub with Russia and the Middle East, given the geopolitical situation at the aforementioned ports. Asia.
