United Arab Emirates announces $15 million contribution to meet urgent humanitarian and reconstruction needs in Jenin, Occupied Palestinian Territory

[ad_1]

Amman,

United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed told UNRWA Commissioner-General Filip Lazzarini yesterday that the UAE will contribute $15 million to help the agency respond to Palestinian refugees in the Jenin refugee camp most pressing needs.

“In the face of the massive devastation in the Jenin refugee camp, the UAE was the first country to show its support to UNRWA this week. I am sincerely grateful for another show of solidarity with Palestine refugees, which UNRWA has long been known for “These funds will enable the Agency to carry out immediate recovery and repair work in the camps, including the Agency’s health centers and houses that have been destroyed or badly damaged,” said the Agency’s Commissioner-General. “

Israel’s two-day military campaign ended on July 4 with severe damage to roads, water and electricity networks and other infrastructure. An assessment is currently underway to determine the extent of the damage and the amount of funding needed to restore services, repair damaged facilities, and provide immediate support to refugees whose homes have been damaged or destroyed.

Over the years, the UAE has contributed generously to UNRWA’s work in support of Palestine refugees. In 2002, it gave comprehensive coverage of the rebuilding of the Jenin refugee camp following the previous round of conflict.

Lazzarini concluded: “The government and people of the UAE have been key long-term supporters of UNRWA and its work with Palestine refugees. I look forward to continuing this partnership and sending the message to refugees that they are not alone. “
