US official: Blinken raised Sikh separatist murder with India’s Jaishankar

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken urged India to cooperate with a Canadian investigation into the Sikh separatist murder during his meeting with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Thursday, according to a US official.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had previously alleged Indian involvement in the killing, but India dismissed the allegations. Despite the discussions, the US State Department’s official statement made no reference to the issue, and political analysts suggest this cautious approach is due in part to the US seeing India as a counterweight to China.
