WATCH: Pakistani minister under fire for using Hindi swearing at university event | World News

after a video Pakistan Education Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain issued an apology on Monday for allegedly using Hindi expletives that went viral on social media. The minister has faced an online backlash for making inappropriate remarks at a graduation ceremony at Lahore’s Government College University (GCU). Calling it an accident, Hussein said he was “sorry” about the incident.

He wrote, “Yesterday at GC University Lahore, I made a slip of the tongue during my speech. I am sorry for this and take my words back.”

In the alleged video, Hussein is heard telling the rally how Rana Ikral, vice-chancellor of Faisalabad Agricultural University, used foul language to tell him about how he worked at the university despite being from Rana tribal ruling class.

Sharing the video on Twitter, one user compared the incident to the state of education in Pakistan, adding that the language indicated low literacy rates. The user wrote, “This is our Minister of Education, Rana Tanveer Hussain. Look at this man’s language and tell me why anyone is surprised to see the dismal state of education in this country. He can’t even pretend at graduation. Education lack throughout.”

Despite the apology, Hussein’s remarks angered netizens, who blasted him for using derogatory language at university events.

Another commented that “the filth is deep in it, in fact, it’s oozing out”.

Others said that this was not an accident, but the consistent style of the minister. “It’s not a slip of the tongue, it’s a testament to your normal behaviour,” the person commented. Some users called it disgraceful and called for the minister to resign, while others argued that someone in such a position of power should show professionalism and lead by example .
