West Fargo Makes Summer Fun Plans Thursday Night Cruise Car Event – InForum

West Fargo – Summer really kicks into gear this Thursday night

West Fargo kicks off its season with Cruise Night.

Cruise Night, now in its 14th year, typically draws about 5,000 people to inspect 500 to 600 vehicles, said Rich Barnes, president

top car club

which helps organize events.

“August always seems to have so many people. It’s unbelievable,” he said.

Cruise Night is usually held on the third Wednesday of each month, July 10th and August 17th. The final Cruise Night of the year will be held on September 14th in conjunction with West Fest.

Participants can park their featured vehicles on Sheyenne Street from Main Avenue to Seventh Avenue, or head south on that stretch.Parking starts at 4:30pm on a first-come, first-served basis

The event runs from 4:30pm to 9pm and will include a variety of food and craft vendors.

Barnes says the monthly event isn’t just for gearheads.

“It’s a variety of cars, and there’s a car out there that everyone can relate to,” he said. “Now it’s really a social event. People see people they haven’t seen in a long time.”

While most of the vehicles out there are classics, there’s always something new, even for a veteran like Barnes.

“Even in our 14th year, every time we have a cruising night, there’s a car you’ve never seen before and people ask, ‘Where did that come from?'”

With no pre-registration required, he never knew who would be in attendance. Some collectors bring cars from as far away as Montana or Nebraska.

Still, sometimes the cars closer to home generate the most interest, as in the case of former North Dakota Gov. Ed Shaffer who sometimes brings his redone Ford pickup to events.

Barnes brought in his own 1965 Pontiac, which he restored from the ground up.

While West Fargo’s Cruise Night always starts in June, similar local events start in May, and Barnes said many collectors feel the weather is too unpredictable to take their cars out of storage now. morning. He said next year could be different, as the first cruise night will be held in May, although no formal vote has yet been taken.

Cruise Night kicks off a busy weekend at The Downtown Yards in Sheyenne, which also hosts the West Fargo Street Fair on Saturday from 10am to 3pm
