LONDON, 5th December (PTI) – An award-winning structural engineer of Indian origin who worked on The Shard, London’s tallest building, has been awarded an honorary degree by Northumbria University in Newcastle, North East England.

Roma Agrawal, 39, was awarded a Doctor of Science by the University last week in recognition of her “distinguished career” as a leading female structural engineer and her work in trying to advance careers in engineering, science and technology Young people and representatives underprivileged groups.

She is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and was awarded an MBE by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2018 for her services to engineering.

“It is a great honor and joy to receive this award from Northumbria University, a place I cherish dearly,” Agrawal said.

“I often refer to the pedestrian bridge as my first engineering project, like my children, so it means a lot to me to be here and receive this kind of generous recognition,” she said of her post-graduation First job came from university – design and construction of a unique footbridge across the Newcastle Central Freeway.

Northumbria University said honorary degrees are awarded each year to recognize those who deserve special recognition for their achievements, links to the University and inspiring qualities.
