vienna [Austria]Jan 2 (ANI): Foreign Minister S Jaishankar met Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer on Sunday (local time) and said the two sides had agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Jaishankar tweeted, “Thanks PM Karl Nehamer for hosting me today. Passed on personal greetings from PM @narendramodi. Appreciated his insights on EU policy & Ukraine conflict. Discussed Indo-Pacific & West Asia.”

“Agree to strengthen our bilateral cooperation. Value Austria’s support for improving Indo-European relations,” he added.

Earlier, Jaishankar met Bulgarian President Rumen Georgiev Radev in Vienna to discuss strengthening cooperation between the two countries on make in India, nearshoring and building resilient supply chains.

Jaishankar tweeted: “Great meeting with Bulgarian President Rumen Georgiev Radev in Vienna. Discussed strengthening our cooperation in the context of Make in India, nearshoring and building resilient supply chains.”

During his visit to Vienna, Jaishankar also met with Austrian Foreign Minister Schallenberg. He tweeted: “Great to meet my good friend Alexander Schallenberg in Vienna. My first diplomatic engagement is in 2023. Thanks to him for inviting us to the traditional New Year’s music in Vienna meeting.”

“This will be India’s first EAM-level visit to Austria in the last 27 years and takes place against the backdrop of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2023,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted in a press release.

During his visit to Austria, Prime Minister Jaishankar will hold talks with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi. He also plans to discuss regional and global issues in the form of Slavkov with the foreign ministers of the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Austria. He will also interact with the Indian community living in Austria.

“In Austria, EAM will also meet with Slavkov the Foreign Ministers of the Czech Republic, Jan Lipavski, the Foreign Minister of the Slovak Republic, Rastislav Kassel, and the Austrian Federal Minister Schallenberg. Discussions are expected to focus on regional and global issues,” the ministry’s foreign ministry said in a release.

Prior to his visit to Austria, Jaishankar had traveled to Cyprus and met former Cyprus Foreign Minister Nicos Christodolides during his three-day visit. Jaishankar said in a tweet: “Great to meet an old friend, former foreign minister @Christodulides.”

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Cyprus.

Speaking at a business event, Jaishankar said India’s role in the global economy has grown in importance, highlighting reforms undertaken by the Modi government that have made the country one of the leading destinations for foreign direct investment.

“As far as India is concerned, today’s rather objective statement shows that we are becoming more and more prominent in the global economy. The trade policy and reforms carried out during this period, as well as the inherent economic strength, are in a sense defined by the Modi government’s clear economic The vision makes us one of the leading destinations for foreign direct investment,” Jaishankar said.

Jaishankar met Cyprus Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulide and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on defense and military cooperation with him. (Arnie)
