New Delhi [India]February 8 (ANI): India is sending supplies, supplies, medical supplies and equipment to Syria and sending search and rescue teams to Turkey under Operation Dost, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said on Wednesday.

The search for survivors of the horrific earthquake that shook Turkey and Syria on Monday continued Wednesday. Foreign aid from several countries has already started arriving in the region.

“According to #OperationDost, India is sending search and rescue teams, a field hospital, supplies, medicines and equipment to Turkey and Syria. This is an ongoing operation and we will provide an update,” Jaishankar tweeted.

The death toll is expected to rise as many people remain buried under the wreckage, according to aid groups and rescuers.

The death toll from the Turkey-Syria earthquake now stands at 9,487, CNN said, citing official sources, as relief operations continue in the affected countries. India sent its fourth aid batch on Tuesday, including 54 members of a medical team from the Indian army, as part of the country’s humanitarian aid and disaster relief.

Recently, more than 6 tons of emergency relief supplies arrived in Syria and were received at Damascus Airport by Deputy Minister of Local Administration and Environment Mumtaz Duaji. This included three truckloads of protective gear, emergency medicine, electrocardiogram machines and other medical supplies, the foreign ministry said in an official statement.

After the tragic earthquake that hit northwestern Syria on February 6, 2022 caused massive destruction and loss of precious lives, India delivered 6 tons of emergency relief supplies to Syria via a special aircraft of the Indian Air Force.

“The consignment was handed over to Mr. Moutaz Douaji, Deputy Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Shri SK Yadav, Syria, at Damascus Airport this morning by Cd’A India. The consignment included emergency medicines and equipment, including portable electrocardiographs, patient monitors and other essential medical supplies,” the official statement read.

India has been providing humanitarian, technical and development assistance to Syria through bilateral and multilateral channels for many years. Food and medicine are supplied to Syria from time to time, including during the pandemic.
