The Minister of Trade of Singapore was in Delhi to participate in the launch of the 3rd Singapore-India Hackathon (SIH) 2023 led by Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the High Commission of the Republic of Singapore in New Delhi as the main partner.
Calling India a strong leader in IT and fintech, Gan Kim Yong said Singapore was interested in exploring opportunities and collaborating with India in the field.
“India has very strong leadership, knowledge, skills and innovation in IT and FinTech. We are very interested in exploring opportunities and working together in this space. UPI and PayNow system is a great venture that we have started together, I hope this will be the start of many partnerships with other countries as Singapore and India can take the lead in the integration of payment systems,” the minister said in an interview with ANI.
India and Singapore recently linked their respective online payment systems to enable seamless cross-border transactions between the two countries.
Simon Wong Wie Kuen, Singapore’s High Commissioner to India, said the partnership will take the bilateral relationship to the next level and Singapore looks forward to continuing to participate in India’s digital transformation journey. (Arnie)
