Imran Khan, former PM of Pakistan and leader of PTI

Rawalpindi [Pakistan]21st February (ANI): Imran Khan, the former prime minister of Pakistan and leader of the Pakistan Tehreek Indifference Party (PTI), was summoned by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on March 9 in connection with the Toshakhana case, Geo News reported.

The PTI chairman has been called to appear before the anti-corruption watchdog at 2:30 pm on March 9.

The developments come shortly after NAB chairman Aftab Sultan resigned for personal reasons.

“The competent authorities have found the offense allegedly committed by the accused in accordance with the 1999 NAO regulations,” the anti-corruption agency wrote in a notification to Khan, Geo News reported.

The investigative process revealed that during Khan’s tenure as prime minister, he kept some state gifts presented to him by foreign dignitaries.

The anti-graft watchdog asked the ousted prime minister to appear before the joint investigation team at his Islamabad office on March 9 and to record his statement in this regard, Geo News reported.

On 19 November, NAB noted the alleged failure to disclose the actual value of gifts received by the former prime minister, his wife and other cabinet members.

People familiar with the matter said there was a discrepancy between the actual value of the gift the former prime minister received and the sale amount.

Earlier today, the ousted prime minister received relief from the Islamabad court, which again granted him immunity and postponed his prosecution in the Toshakhana case until February 28, Geo News reported.

Additional session judge Zafar Iqbal today heard the case brought by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) last year after it found the chairman of PTI guilty of corruption.

Prior to this, the court had set February 7 as the date for indictment, but postponed the matter until today, accepting Imran Khan’s request for immunity, Geo News reported.

It is worth noting that the NAB investigation began after the ECP disqualified Khan under section 63(1)(p) in October last year for making “false representations and incorrect representations” in the Toshakhana reference.

In its written judgment, the election watchdog said Khan had “willfully and willfully” violated the provisions contained therein. [in] Sections 137, 167 and 173 of the Electoral Act 2017 for “making false representations (sic) and incorrect statements to the Commission in his presentation of the 2020-21 balance sheet”.

Meanwhile, the Lahore High Court (LHC) granted Khan protective bail in one case on Monday while the hearing for the second case has yet to start, Dawn reported.

The LHC granted Khan’s request for protective bail in a case related to protests outside Pakistan’s Election Commission.

He was booked under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) for allegedly threatening an extra session judge and senior police officers of the Islamabad Police at a rally in the capital.

The head of the Pakistan Justice Instigation (PTI) threatened to hold an extra session at a rally to “intimidate” police officials and the judiciary, the FIR said. The main purpose of intimidation is to prevent the police and judiciary from fulfilling their legal obligations, the FIR said. (Arnie)
