KATHMANDU, March 4 (PTI) — Nepal’s Supreme Court has ordered its government to file a writ petition against Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Daha Prachanda for the murder of 5,000 people during the decade-long insurgency. Death is responsible.
Judges Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada and Hari Prasad Phuyal on Friday ordered the court administration to register the petition after hearing two defense lawyers against the decision of the Supreme Court administration to reject their petition.

Advocates Gyanendra Aaran and Kalyan Budhathoki, also victims of the conflict, filed separate written petitions to the Supreme Court, but the government refused to register them on November 10 last year, claiming that the issue was related to transitional justice and that the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was dealing with it. In these cases, the petitioners have registered their cases with the Commission.

The victim asked the court to take necessary legal action against the killing, which Prachanda himself admitted.
Speaking at Maghi festival celebrations in Kathmandu on January 15, 2020, Prachanda said that as the Maoist leader of a decade-long insurgency, he would be responsible for the deaths of 5,000 people and that the state should be held accountable responsible for the rest of the deaths.
“I have been accused of killing 17,000 people, which is not true. But, I am ready to take responsibility for killing 5,000 people in the conflict,” Prachanda said, adding that the remaining 12,000 people were killed by the feudal regime.
“If you hand me the responsibility for the killing of 5,000 people, I have a moral obligation to take it. But there is no justice for the 12,000 people killed by the state, and it puts my head on the head, ’ he said at a public event last month.
“I can’t escape it. But people can’t blame me for something I didn’t do,” he said.
An estimated 17,000 people were killed during the decade-long insurgency. Prachanda launched a decade-long armed conflict in the name of “people’s war”.
