[ad_1]

Islamabad [Pakistan]January 2 (ANI): Pharmaceutical companies are threatening to start a protest on January 5 to pressure the government to address the industry’s problems due to a severe shortage of life-saving drugs in Pakistan, ARY News reported.

Insulin for diabetics and various drugs for kidney and heart disease have disappeared from the market, ARY News reports.

Medicine shortages in Pakistan have become a major problem in the country.

During artificial shortages, drug prices are exorbitant. According to the “Daily Express” report, the current situation is that domestic pharmaceutical companies are active in the black market, while many foreign companies have withdrawn their operations from Pakistan due to low returns on investment.

The Daily Express suggested that the Drug Price and Quality Monitoring Agency (DRAP) should focus on how to ensure the quality of drugs without raising prices, and how to stop the smuggling and sale of fake and inferior drugs.

Meanwhile, the failure of Pakistani pharmaceutical companies to open letters of credit has raised fears of halting drug production, Nawai Waqt reported.

Unable to obtain U.S. dollars, the bank refused to open the letter of credit. Orders from China, India, the US and Western Europe have stalled.

Nawai Waqt added that pharmaceutical companies have expressed concern that if raw materials are not available, they will not be able to supply medicines worth Rs 40 even at a price of Rs 60. Shortages began to appear in the wholesale drug market, leading to black marketing. Drug shortages can lead to human tragedy. (Arnie)
