RAMAPO (United States), Dec. 2 (AP) — Seven children were injured when a school bus veered off the road in suburban New York Thursday, crashed into two parked cars and crashed into a house, police said .
The incident occurred just before 9 a.m. in the Village of New Hempstead in Rockland County, the Ramapo Police Department said in a statement.
A bus carrying 21 children to school veered off the road, struck a power pole, hit a tree and then struck two unmanned vehicles, police said. The bus then continued down a grassy hillside, hit several trees and eventually crashed into a house, they said.
The driver was taken to hospital for minor injuries, police said.
Seven children were taken to hospital. Five of them were assessed for minor bumps and bruises, while the other two, both 5-year-old boys, suffered more serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The accident is under investigation, police said.
In the town of Ramapo, about 30 miles (50 kilometers) northwest of New York City, home to a large Orthodox Jewish population, the bus was taking the young boy to a private Jewish school in the area. (Associated Press)
