WASHINGTON, March 2 (PTI) Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy said on Wednesday that he is taking former President Donald Trump’s “America First” agenda to a new level to get the job done.
In an interview with Fox News, the 37-year-old said following foreign policy is about setting priorities. He called for decoupling from the Chinese economy but said it would not be easy.
“I’m taking Trump’s America First agenda to the next level to really get the job done, Maria, and I believe I’m leading and will continue to lead in this space, with my specific policy proposals and vision,” he said.
The Indian-American politician said he is also the only candidate in modern Republican memory to work on ending affirmative action in this country. He claimed that the US president could do this by undoing the Lyndon Johnson-era order by executive order.
“Decoupling from the Chinese economy will involve some level of sacrifice, but we can make those sacrifices if we know what we’re sacrificing for. That’s what we call America. Ultimately, we’re stuck, partly by using Capitalism as a tool to spread democracy, when in fact China is just using mercantilism on the other side,” he said.
“So what do we need to do? I would say we need to take major steps to actually declare economic independence and pull the economic rug out from under China. Now they are actually vulnerable … Xi Jinping did a lot of damage to the Chinese economy last year Big damage to continue his third term,” he said. PTI / LKJ
