World News | US does not want to see conflict with China: top White House official

[ad_1]

washington [US]Dec 18 (ANI): Despite acknowledging the security challenges posed by China, US National Security Council (NSC) strategic communications coordinator John Kirby said Washington does not want to see a conflict with Beijing.

“China continues to change the security environment around the world. Now, as you hear us say, we view China as a strategic competitor. We don’t want to see a conflict with China,” said National Security Council Chairman John Kirby Say. On December 16, the National Security Council (NSC) Strategic Communications Coordinator was interviewed by the American Broadcasting Company Voice of America (VOA).

The White House official’s comments on China came as the State Department created a new China Coordination Office to help manage the rivalry between Washington and Beijing.

“However, we must prepare for the security challenges China presents in the information environment in 2022, including their efforts to achieve a new normal in Taiwan following their recent activities in Taiwan,” he added.

On Friday, U.S. Secretary of State Anthony J. Blinken presided over the launch of the new China Coordination Office, informally known as “China House.” China House will ensure that the U.S. government can responsibly manage our competition with the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and advance our vision of an open and inclusive international system.

The China House has brought together a group of experts on China from various departments of the State Council to jointly study security, economic, technological, diplomatic and strategic issues, the statement said. The statement added that improved coordination would bring State Department policy more coherence and put the United States in a deeper position to engage with allies and partners.

U.S. State Department Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedante Patel said at a news conference on Thursday that the Biden administration launched China House because the U.S. recognizes the scale, scope and stakes of a strategic competition with the People’s Republic of China.

“We launched China House because we recognized that the scale, scope and stakes of our strategic competition with the People’s Republic of China (PRC) required us to think, collaborate and act in new ways. It would integrate independent broad centers with the authority to Leading the formulation and implementation of China policy,” he said.

“China House is a key part of Secretary Blinken’s modernization agenda and will help our diplomats meet the challenges of the 21st century,” he added.

In early May, Blinken announced the establishment of the China House, calling it a cross-departmental integrated team responsible for coordinating and implementing U.S. policies across issues and across regions.

“As part of my modernization agenda, I am determined to give the State Department and our diplomats the tools they need to meet this challenge. This includes establishing a China House — an integrated department-wide team that will coordinate and implement Our policy across issues and across regions, working with Congress as needed,” he said.
