Springfield Public Schools spokesman Stephen Hall said the district immediately replaced the window where the swastika was found and removed the graffiti. He declined to say how much damage was found, but said the school district would be required to file an insurance claim to recover costs, the Springfield News Leader reported.
Hall said the vandalism would not delay the January start of New York elementary schools.

The vandalism comes amid a spike in anti-Semitic incidents across the country, including by celebrities such as rapper Yeh.
In April, the Anti-Defamation League reported a record number of reports of anti-Semitism in 2021. The group said the 2,717 incidents of assault, harassment and vandalism represented a 34 percent increase on the previous year and the highest number since ADL began tracking these incidents in 1979.
