Preparations are in full swing for the Abu Dhabi World Triathlon Championships series hosted by Dammam, which will take place on March 3-4.
Organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), the two-day event will take place at the Yas Marina Circuit and will feature some of the world’s leading elite triathletes.
With less than a week to go until the first round of the series in Abu Dhabi for its eighth year, the event brings together community members of all abilities to test themselves on a race course combining swimming, cycling and running.
Aligned with the government’s vision to increase participation, engage adults and children to adopt healthy lifestyles and improve quality of life, the ADSC has been key in staging various international and world class triathlon events for athletes of all abilities offers opportunities for people to get involved alongside elite triathletes.
Mohammad Ahmed Al Rumaiti, Director of International Events at Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: “Triathlon is growing in popularity globally and in the UAE it is no exception, with many taking part in this multidisciplinary sport on a regular basis. The World Triathlon Championships Series Abu Dhaman schedule presented by Daman has been carefully designed to ensure there is something for everyone, no matter your ability, and we want to see as many members of the public as possible sign up for this prestigious event It’s going to be a fun day at the global event.”
While infrastructure such as purpose-built cycle paths and running tracks has contributed to the growth of triathlon in the UAE and Abu Dhabi, there are also many local events that attract thousands of communities.
The World Triathlon Championships Series in Abu Dhabi offers the people of the UAE a unique opportunity to participate in events across the globe. Next weekend’s event features age-group competition categories designed to appeal to athletes of all ages and abilities—from first-time triathletes looking for a new challenge; to triathletes looking for a new challenge; Triathletes looking for new individual records; Junior athletes ages 6 and up.
The Kids and Teens will be on Friday (March 3) and the Adults will be on Saturday (March 4).
