A pharmacy in Abu Dhabi has been handed over to the prosecution for allegedly exploiting health insurance policies, authorities announced on Thursday.
A statement issued by Abu Dhabi’s Department of Health (DoH) said the company allegedly substituted other cheaper medicines for customers’ prescriptions to earn extra money from insurance claims.
The health department found some suspicious transactions at the pharmacy during inspections.
“After repeated follow-up and inspections, the Discipline Inspection Commission of the Ministry of Health transferred the pharmacy to the procuratorate for investigation of such behavior,” the authorities said.
The Ministry of Health has called on all healthcare providers in Abu Dhabi to adhere to standards and regulations at all times.
“Adherence to the guidelines helps maintain the efficiency of the healthcare system while maintaining the health and safety of community members,” it said.
