Sheikh Zayed to be Honored with Abu Dhabi Airport Renaming

Abu Dhabi International Airport is set to undergo a significant name change in honor of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The President, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has issued directives to rename the airport as Zayed International Airport. The official name change is scheduled to take effect on February 9, 2024, coinciding with the official opening of the new Terminal A. This modern terminal commenced its operational phase on November 1.

Smooth Transition Period for Airlines

During the first two weeks, a transition period will be in effect, allowing all terminals, including A, 1, 2, and 3, to operate simultaneously. Starting from November 14, all airlines will exclusively operate from Terminal A. Etihad Airways will also gradually shift its flights to Terminal A, with full operation from the new terminal beginning at 11 a.m. on November 14.

Crown Prince’s Visit to State-of-the-Art Terminal: Sheikh Zayed

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, visited the impressive Terminal A on its inauguration day. With a vast area of 742,000 square meters and an annual passenger capacity of up to 45 million, this terminal will serve as the home for 28 airlines, connecting passengers to 117 destinations worldwide.

Etihad Airways’ CEO Commends Visionary Leadership

Antonoaldo Neves, the CEO of Etihad Airways, celebrated this momentous occasion as the airline embarks on its 20th anniversary year. He praised the visionary leadership in Abu Dhabi for creating a stunning airport that not only reflects the local landscape but also enhances the overall travel experience for passengers.

Abu Dhabi International Airport’s transformation into Zayed International Airport pays a fitting tribute to the memory of the late Sheikh Zayed.
