Dubai Takes Major Leap Toward Flying Taxis With World’s First Certified Vertiport
Dubai has achieved a major urban mobility breakthrough with the certification of the world’s first commercial air taxi vertiport, a key step toward the emirate beginning public flying taxi services. The certification represents a critical regulatory and infrastructural accomplishment, establishing Dubai as a leader in the burgeoning urban air mobility sector. Vertiports are akin to airports, but built for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft that promise to whisk people across the city in minutes.
The initiative builds upon Dubai’s vision – announced several years ago – to be among the first to offer commercial air taxi services to the public.
With the vertiport ready, attention will now focus on subsequent stages like aircraft certification, pilot training and route deployment that authorities hope will be completed over the next months leading up to public operations. Dubai officials say the move supports the city’s push for sustainable smart-mobility solutions that would reduce traffic and offer an innovative means of getting around town for residents and visitors alike.
