MAKTABA brings immersive literary and cultural events to Abu Dhabi International Book Fair

MAKTABA, the library management arm of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), organised a series of literary and cultural events for this year’s Abu Dhabi International Book Fair (ADIBF). Designed for multiple segments of the community, MAKTABA’s program includes a series of cultural workshops, workshops, panel discussions and creative exhibitions, and invites writers, writers, calligraphers and artists from various creative fields.

MAKTABA’s activities during the exhibition are mainly aimed at children and young people, as they are considered to be the cornerstones of sustainable cultural development in Abu Dhabi and the UAE. Children visiting the exhibition enjoyed a variety of educational and entertaining cultural recreational activities and workshops such as writing, painting, science experiments and competitions.

In addition, the parents of the winners of the “Little Writers in Big Books” competition organized by MAKTABA to encourage children to write and develop their literary skills were also present at ADIBF to watch the book signing.

Other MAKTABA events during the ADIBF included the “Let’s Talk” dialogue session, which focused on innovative theatre and performance performances. Additionally, interactive workshops such as My Toy Box workshops allow children to turn empty cardboard boxes into toys of their own design. The children also took part in a postcard making class, a story character making workshop, an Arabic calligraphy class, and a “Creative Writing Hope Quest Award Winner” workshop.

MAKTABA also held readings and conversations, including one for the book cotton cloud, designed to stimulate children’s ability to write and imagine stories.novel ArimTurki Al Zaabiwas was also discussed as part of the Al-Jahiz Literary Salon event. The dialogue session “From Composition to Empowering Literary Talent” helped participants discover ways to develop literary talent. MAKTABA also held a session on “The Impact of Reading on Creativity”, where participants explored the role of reading in stimulating writers’ creativity. Finally, a workshop was held to introduce visitors to MAKTABA’s digital library and database, And highlight their role in supporting Abu Dhabi’s cultural scene.
