ABU DHABI, 28th October, 2022 (WAM) — The Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADCCI) and the Benin Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIB) have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen economic and trade relations between their members and bring benefit their business community.
The MoU was signed by Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce First Vice Chairman Dr. Ali Saeed bin Harmal Al Dhaheri and CCIB President Arnauld Akakpo at the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce headquarters.
The signing ceremony was attended by Moudjaidou Soumanou Issoufou, Benin’s non-resident ambassador to the UAE; Mohamed Helal Al Mheiri, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce, representatives of the Benin Embassy in Kuwait and officials from both parties.
Under the terms of the MoU, both parties will work to strengthen cooperation, promote investment opportunities, and facilitate strategic exchange opportunities among chamber members.
The two chambers of commerce will share trade and investment information and expertise, exchange trade missions, organise virtual events and support the launch of joint projects in investment, tourism, agriculture, healthcare and technology.
In his keynote speech, Al Dhaheri said: “Trade between Abu Dhabi and Benin has grown significantly year on year and we aspire to achieve further growth thanks to the partnership we have forged today. Both countries are eager to enhance trade and investment to drive the economy. Growth. We look forward to exchanging knowledge and expertise and exploring investment opportunities that will be win-win for all.”
In turn, Al Mheiri said the MoU is key to boosting cooperation in investment, tourism, technology, agriculture, healthcare and technology. “Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce, representing the voice of the private sector, is committed to exploring opportunities to support the development of the UAE’s private sector and attract local, regional and international investment.”
The President of CCIB said: “I would like to thank the efforts made to sign this agreement. The MoU aims to promote and develop trade and investment activities for businessmen from the UAE and Benin. Benin is a major gateway into the West African country’s market and is the largest economy in the West African country. Active member of the Community (ECOWAS), which includes 15 African countries with a combined population of 350 million.”
Issoufou commented: “The Benin government has provided a set of institutional facilities and legislative guidance to attract foreign direct investment. Some of the important sectors for investment in Benin include agriculture, export and trade of ornamental stones such as marble, granite and quartz, production of feed, Livestock and the export of tropical fruits such as pineapples, mangoes, soybeans, cashews and other products.”
