Katie Holmes returns to the stage after 10 years.
The “Dawson Creek” actress joins the cast of the off-Broadway production of “The Wanderer,” written by playwright Anna Ziegler, which begins previews at New York’s Laura Pells Theater in January. Thie will play a movie star caught up in the life of a Jewish novelist.
The Roundabout Theatre Company show will be helmed by Barry Edelstein, Artistic Director of The Old Globe Theatre, and is scheduled to open on February 16, with limited screenings running until March 26.
A statement from the theatre company said: “Esther and Shmuri, orthodox Jews, have just married, and their future is written in the laws of the Torah. Abe, a secular Jew, is a well-known novelist who believes he can write down his future…until an unexpected email from a movie star puts his marriage to the test and threatens to prove him wrong.”
The rest of the cast and other creative team members will be announced at a later date.
Katie made her Broadway debut in 2008, starring in a revival of Arthur Miller’s classic drama “All My Sons,” starring John Lithgow, Day Dianne Wiest and Patrick Wilson. She was last on stage 10 years ago, in 2012’s Dead Accounts by Theresa Rebeck.
