Wednesday’s competition was attended by Abdul Moneim Al Hashemi, Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation and Chairman of the Jiu-Jitsu Asia Federation, and Mohammed Salem Al Dhaheri, Senior Vice-Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu International Jiu-Jitsu Federation Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, Director General of Abu Dhabi Customs, Saeed Al Fazari, Executive Director, DCT Abu Dhabi Support Services, Matar Al Nuaimi, Director, Abu Dhabi Center for Public Health, and Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary General, UAEJJF.
Saudi athlete Muhammad Al Yami, who traveled all the way from the United States to compete in the ADWPJJC, won the gold medal in the Men’s Blue Master 2 (62kg) category. “The World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championships in Abu Dhabi was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up. Many of my family and friends came to see me compete and my gold medal achievement was a pleasant surprise for them,” he said.
Cinthya De Paula Oliveira from Brazil represented the Icon Jiu-Jitsu Team—International club and won the blue belt gold medal in Master 1 (70kg class). She said she had been looking forward to this moment.
“To be honest, Brazilian athletes love the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Championships. Everyone is counting on this championship. It’s great that I was able to win a medal, but more importantly, it’s a great event where we can compete in The jiu-jitsu community reconnects with old friends and makes new ones,” she added.
Valmyr Neto from the British Checkmat International Club won the gold medal in the men’s Black Master 2 (62 kg) category, and he expressed his joy of winning the medal.
He said: “The UAE, especially Abu Dhabi, is the land of opportunity. All you need to do is prepare, show courage and perform. If you do these three things, you will get the result you want. It was great in every way and I want to come back next year.”
