Around seven in 10 workers in the UAE are confident of a pay rise in 2023, even if it means changing jobs, a study has found. Most workers in the UAE say their last pay raise was a year or two ago. At least 15 percent said their wages had increased for five years or more.

The study, published by Tiger Recruitment, found that UAE workers are more likely to seek new, higher-paying jobs in 2023 rather than negotiating a salary increase with their current employer.

Nearly four in 10 (38%) workers in the UAE are prepared to change jobs to get the salary they want.

The data suggests that this reluctance to ask for a raise may be due to the fact that nearly half (43%) of UAE workers have discussed the issue with their bosses in the past year, yet only 27% have realized a raise.

It was revealed that only 23% were inclined to stay in their current position for job security, and only 15% planned to negotiate a raise with their current employer.

“People are often paid less than they expect. Employers will justify not getting a raise by emphasizing the benefits they offer. However, we know that for job seekers and employees alike, salary is paramount,” said Mena of Tiger Recruitment said Zahra Clark.

“Now that everything costs money – food, fuel, rent – workers feel the pinch. People want and need to make more money and they have an incentive to jump ship if need be.

“If companies are serious about retaining top talent, they must offer fair and competitive compensation packages that reflect their value. If employers continue to struggle with compensation, they will have a hard time retaining the people they need,” Clark said .
