sydney [Australia]Feb 18 (ANI): Senator Tim Ayers, Assistant Minister for Trade and Assistant Minister for Manufacturing said on Saturday that Australia is seeking India’s role in hosting the G20 meeting in the upcoming September.

Addressing the audience at Raisina @ Sydney Business Breakfast, Ailes said India was one of the world’s greatest democracies. There is a lot to look forward to in the Australia-India relationship. As the fastest growing major economy in the world, India offers enormous opportunities.

“Australia looks forward to hosting the Quad leaders meeting in September and looks forward to India’s leadership in hosting the G20 meeting… The Albany government takes our relationship with India very seriously. It is one of the greatest democracies in the world and, of course, the world’s largest Democracy. Last year, of course, we celebrated the 75th anniversary of India’s independence. In fact, thousands of people attended celebrations across Australia during the 75th Independence Day celebrations. They were very colorful and vibrant,” said the Assistant Secretary for Trade.

India assumes the G20 presidency on 1 December 2022. Australia’s prime minister, Anthony Albanese, will also join other G20 leaders at the G20 Delhi summit, scheduled for September this year.

The Raisina@Sydney Business Breakfast is hosted by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI) and the Observer Research Foundation of India (ORF) at the InterContinental Sydney.

Ayres also said the relationship between Australia and India was enduring and deep. It spans oceans and industries. It enriches Australia’s culture and economy, making us stronger and better.

“Australia’s Indian diaspora is a central part of Australia’s multicultural make-up. The majority of people in Australia are of Indian descent. In last year’s budget, the government made substantial investments to advance Australia’s strategic and economic partnership with India. Our Joint projects and initiatives include funding scientific and technical research collaborations, strengthening critical mineral supply chains and projects, and boosting our creative and cultural industries,” Ayres said.

“We are working together to build peace, prosperity and stability in our region through groups like the Quartet and within structures like the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework. There is a lot to look forward to in the Australia-India relationship,” he added.

Turning to the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA), which was signed on April 2, 2022 and came into force late last year, he said it would be difficult to pass through their respective systems.
