Dubai: New flyover linking two major roads opens – News

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened an overpass linking Ras Al Khor and Nad Al Hamar roads.

The new bridge is part of the second phase of the Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed corridor improvement project, which extends from the intersection of Ras Al Khor-Nad Al Hamar road to the intersection of Ras Al Khor-Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed road.

When complete, the project will increase the Ras Al Khor road’s capacity to 10,000 vehicles per hour, reduce travel time from 20 minutes to approximately seven minutes, and improve traffic safety and flow.

Construction includes bridges and underpasses spanning 1,471 meters, which will increase road capacity to 30,000 vehicles per hour.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Executive Board of RTA, said the two phases of the project involved widening Ras Al Khor Road, extending 8 kilometers from the intersection, and the Dubai-Al Ain Road upwards to meet Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road. the road – and the construction of a bridge spanning 2 km, and service roads on both sides.

“The project serves a number of major developments housing 650,000 residents including Lagoon, Dubai Creek, Meydan Horizon, Ras Al Khor, Al Wasl and Nad Al Hamar Complex. In the future, the scope of the project will include the Sheikh Rashid bin The construction of the Saeed Crossing, which spans the Dubai Creek and connects Al Jaddaf in Bur Dubai with the road between the Dubai Creek Project and Dubai Festival City,” added Al Tayer.

The second phase includes improving the intersection of Nad Al Hamar and Ras Al Khor roads. The capacity of the intersection will be increased to 30,000 vehicles per hour through the construction of a 2-lane bridge extending 988 meters, providing free left turns for inbound vehicles from Nad Al Hamar Road to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road.

It also includes the construction of an additional dual-lane bridge extending 115 meters to serve traffic from Nad Al Hamar Road to Ras Al Khor Road, in the direction of Dubai-Al Ain Road- and a dual-lane underpass extending 368 meters, To provide traffic from Ras Al Khor Road to Nad Al Hamar turn right. In addition, the works include widening the existing bend and extending Ras Al Khor Road from Nad Al Hamar Road intersection to Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road intersection, which is expected to open by the end of April next year.

In December 2022, the RTA launched the initial phase of the project, which includes widening the road from three-lane to four-lane in both directions over 4 kilometers and building two main bridges with a total length of 1,730 meters and a capacity of 10,600 vehicles per hour.

One of the two main bridges constructed has a three-lane length and is 740 meters long to serve inbound traffic from Dubai’s Al Ain Road and Al Khail Road eastwards towards Dubai Creek Harbour. Traffic in the direction of the entrance is estimated at 7,500 vehicles per hour.

The second is a two-lane bridge and ramp with a span of 990 meters and a capacity of approximately 3,100 vehicles per hour to serve traffic from Dubai Creek Harbor to Ras Al Khor Road. Works also include the construction of a new 4-lane road extending 1.5 km and the entrance and exit of the newly built community to ease traffic in and out of the intersection of Nad Al Hamar and Ras Al Khor roads.
